Time-limited edition : 12pm BST 8 June - 12pm BST 10 June
Hello folks, a wee note from the undergrowth to let you know that I have a new timed-release edition popping into the world very soon.
The Green Man is a figure that's intrigued and enticed me since I was a teenager, and I wrote about this at reasonable length here the last time I made a piece based on The Green Man, around a year ago, which mostly covers this one too.
I wanted to take this particular depiction of him into a wilder, more Pan-like direction, with a sense of him being amidst us in everyday life rather than the usual more abstracted nature spirit.
'Leod' is a Middle/Old English word for man, or lord, and I thought I'd use it for the title of this picture as it has a nice ring to it, and also as a wee nod to Paul Kingsnorth's magnificent book, The Wake, which is written in a mind-tangling/tingling version of Old English and much inspired me.
Grene Leod will also appear as the label on a soon-to-be-released very limited collector's whiskey. The whiskey didn't have a name at the time of agreeing to make some artwork to an open non-brief brief, and the whiskey will be now be called Grene Man, after the artwork.
As usual K2 Screen have produced a beautifully clear and minutely detailed print. If you have any of my previous prints on this paper you'll know how lush the finish and deckled edges are with this paper and ink combo.
Grene Leod will be available as a screen print for 48 hours only, with the edition size being determined by the number of prints purchased in that time, with no further printing after then.
Here are the details:
